Invitation to ALARA Members

ALARA is nearing its 35th anniversary, and it is time to consider its medium- to long-term future. The ALARA Board invites all members to participate in a conversation about that future.

ALARA has had many successes:

• Thirty volumes of Action Learning and Action Research Journal

• Thirteen monographs

• Several World Congress Proceedings books, and several other books

• Twenty-six Australasian conferences

• Ten World Congresses (with the eleventh this year)

• Ninety-five shorter events and webinars

• National and International collaborations

• International recognition

Two questions the Board would like to discuss with its members are - where to from here, and how to get there?

Members may prefer to send their views via email - admin@alarassociation.org, but all members are invited to join the Board on 4th August 2025 at 9.00 pm (Australian Eastern Standard Time). Please email ALARA to indicate that you would like to join the session - admin@alarassociation.org.

11th Action Learning Action Research and 15th Participatory Action Research World Congress

Putting Global Collaboration at the Heart of Action Research

The Call for Papers for the World Congress is closing in two weeks (30 June), so please submit your proposal. Registrations for the World Congress are open, with prices from $55 per day for online attendance, and for two days on-site attendance in Manila, $235, Auckland $350, and Sydney $385 (concessions also available). Early-bird registration closes on 1 August.

The World Congress will be at:

• Auckland University of Technology Sports Performance Research Institute NZ on 18th and 19th September 2025
• University of Technology Sydney on 23rd and 24th September 2025
• Medici di Makati College Manila on 30th September and 1st October 2025
• and online on the above dates.

Webinar with Alfredo Ortiz Aragón

The ALARA Webinar "Action Learning in the Context of Generative Artificial Intelligence" was very successful, and a video will be available later this month.

The next webinar will be with Alfredo Ortiz Aragón in early August - date and time to be confirmed in coming weeks.

He Karanga - A Call for Papers - Special Issue

As announced last month, the call for papers reflects especially Action Research’s essential contribution to the democratisation of knowledge, giving voice, strength and strategy to those too often silenced or marginalised.

The AL / AR calendar of events has many entries of events over the coming twelve months. Please send any news for us to add to the Calendar so that all can see what is happening in the AL/AR communities. If you have any items, please contact ALARA.

How Can You Help?

ALARA Is a volunteer-run organisation. The Board welcomes any offers of assistance. Note: you do not have to be a Co-ordinator. ALARA needs people who can offer an hour a month, an hour a day, or anything between. Joining the strategic planning conversation mentioned above would be a great assistance.
