- Dr Judith McBride and Afrouz Mobayen will share reflections on a relational learning experience as instructor/learner/teacher/participant, and engage workshop participants in the creation of a métissage.
See their introductory video in YouTube here.
- Dr Bob Dick will be presenting The relevance of action learning to the world’s current existential crises.
Members can register for the entire virtual conference for $75.00, while the price for non-members is $95.00. ALARA-BALT 2020 Australasian Conference
- Have you liked the Conference on Facebook?
|
|
ALARA has a page and an event for the Conference on Facebook, and three hashtags: #actionlearning, #actionresearch and #ALARABALT2020.
Our assistants are posting updates and information relating to ALARA, BALT and the conference. To gain the maximum coverage, however, we need ALARA members to view and "like" our ALARA page and Conference event. The more "likes" we get, the greater the promotion of the event.

More on Action Learning Facilitator and Practitioner Development Programmes
The alliance between ALARA and the Global Centre for Work-Applied Learning (GCWAL) announced in late August has many aspects. The alliance includes the introduction of new professional certifications as Action Learning Facilitators and Action Learning Practitioners, co-badged by ALARA and GCWAL. Information about the programmes are available on the GCWAL website and the linked brochures. For example the Facilitating Action Learning Teams brochure can be obtained here.
The alliance also provides support to ALARA to develop research in action learning and action research. GCWAL and ALARA have begun discussions on the first of the research projects, and a further announcement will be made later this year.
If you would like to know more, please see the GCWAL website or the ALARA website.

ALARA Member Publishes a New Book
New book with a practical, developmental, multi-sectorial, action research model for 1-to-1 leadership support
ALARA member Prof Eileen Piggot-Irvine has co-authored, with Karene Biggs, a new book: Leadership Coaching, Mentoring, Counselling or Supervision? One Way is Not Enough from Cambridge Press.
Book Review from Hilary Quosai, HR Senior Executive, Toronto, Canada:
I was heading down a path of the importance of an integrated approach to developing leaders. Then I read your book and “boom”! It is inspirational! It takes all of the developmental elements of the support role and integrates them beautifully.
This book represents an invaluable step forward for anyone wanting to increase leader effectiveness through one-to-one support as it makes the case for the pressing need for this type of development. This is not a ‘quick fix’ solution but a deep, thoughtful and thorough exploration of the ‘how to’ implement. This is backed up by research and real-world experience to also understand the ‘why to’ implement. This holistic approach, considering the micro and macro levels of leader and organisation, is exactly what is needed to develop and support successful leadership in this ever more complex world.
Also, I do have to comment on the illustrations. They are so simply, perfect. What a talent in Lucy Dyke!

CSIRO's Challenges Mission
CSIRO will work with the government, universities, industry and the community, on a new 'Team Australia' missions program to bolster Australia’s COVID-19 recovery and build long term resilience. The program of large scale, major scientific and collaborative research initiatives, will be aimed at solving some of Australia’s greatest challenges, focused on outcomes that lead to positive impact, new jobs and economic growth.
CSIRO is calling for partners to join this 'Team Australia' approach to solving what seem like unsolvable problems. It will direct $100 million annually to the co-creation of missions, working with the brightest minds across the research sector and industry. No mission will be delivered by CSIRO alone – to think big, they need to take a whole of system approach by engaging in true co-design and development with government, industry, research and communities.
