ALARA-BALT 2020 Australasian Conference
The ALARA-BALT Conference preparations continue. As this conference is not for seven months (early November), ALARA is confident the current crisis over the COVID-19 pandemic will have ended. Although there may be some restrictions on travel, possibly from other countries, travel within Australia should have returned to normal. The call for submission of proposals for the conference continues. The conference theme is Discovering the Future Together: Action Learning and Action Research at Work. Details about the streams are available here. Registrations will now open in April.
The Organising Committee is negotiating with sites for a Doctoral Workshop, which will include a virtual link-up for action research doctoral and master students to share learnings. The model for this workshop may help in future virtual sessions, so we encourage involvement of those able to assist in setting up this workshop.
If you would like to help review submissions for the conference, please contact Chivonne Algeo, ALARA's Vice-President Australasia.
For more information, please see the conference web page.

Reminder about Strategic Plan Input
The ALARA Board have been developing a draft Strategic Plan for 2020 - 2023. This Strategic Plan includes the areas in which the Board believes it needs to concentrate, summarised in a one page (shown on the left) as improving ALARA's financial position and increasing its profile through a variety of activities. Clarifying its Vision Statement and Object are early steps in this work.
ALARA members are reminded that the Board is seeking their input to the Strategic Plan Overview and Operationalisation Plan - feedback, suggestions and other input - by Thursday 16 April 2020. Please see the web page for the draft Strategic Plan for these documents (this is a members only page, so you will need to log into the ALARA site before clicking on this link). Please email suggestions to admin [at] alarassociation.org.
If you wish to provide feedback, but cannot do so by Thursday, please contact admin [at] alarassociation.org as soon as possible.

Changes to ALARA Publications Printing
After more than a year of searching for a new printing service, ALARA has arranged print-on-demand services with IngramSpark, a worldwide printing service (with printing facilities in Victoria in Australia, United Kingdom and the USA). This arrangement also means that the ALARA publications lodged with IngramSpark will be offered to online book distributors / sellers, such as Amazon, Book Depository and Booktopia. Obviously, those online book sellers may not list the ALARA publications, but if they do, it will greatly increase the availability of those publications.
ALARA is now able to offer its publications in a variety of forms, and via several methods
- Previously printed copies of some journals, monographs and other publications for $40.00 for a Journal, $20.00 for a Monograph and $60.00 for a book, with no additional fee for standard postage, which is a saving over purchasing directly from a print-on-demand service. Faster postage is available at an additional cost.
The list of publications and the process for purchasing them can be found on the ALARA website.
- Print-on-demand copies of all Monographs and all issues of the Action Learning and Action Research Journal from Volume 20 (2014) ordered via IngramSpark. If you would like to order a copy, please contact admin [at] alarassociation.org.
- In due course, ALARA publications may become available via a large online distributor. If you see these publications, please contact admin [at] alarassociation.org to send the web address of the publication.
- Electronic copies of the Journal and Monographs via the ALARA website. Members can access these copies soon after they are published, while non-members can access them about twelve months later. See here for Monographs, and here for Journals.
- Abstracts of the articles in each volume of the Journal since Volume 17 No 2 (2011) are available to the general public, while members have access to the full content of all articles on the Journal website - https://journal.alara.net.au (we are planning to upgrade this site during this year - more information to come).
- ALARA supplies copies of the Action Learning and Action Research Journal to Informit and EBSCO for loading in their search sites, where the public can access individual articles. Members can access the Informit site free of charge after logging into the ALARA site - more details here.
