Action Research Practitioner Papers
ALARA has been communicating with a presenter from the 2020 ALARA-BALT conference who has written a long AR practitioner's paper. ALARA has decided to publish the paper as a new form of publication, being longer than a monograph, and primarily about the practitioner's journey in developing a particular aspect related to action learning / action research. More information about this new publication, and invitations for further submissions will be available in the coming month.

Thesis Research Notes
The ALARA Global Strategic Publications Editorial Board invites submission of Thesis Research Notes, which would be written by Action Research (or Action Learning) master or doctoral students. The content would mostly focus on the journey they experienced during their studies. The students' supervisors will be invited to provide a response about the paper. Details of this initiative can be found in the latest issue of the Action Learning and Action Research Journal, and on the ALARA site. If you are interested to know more, or know of students who would benefit from submitting a Thesis Research Notes paper, please email admin [at] alarassociation.org.

Call for Monograph Submissions
ALARA has published seven monographs over the last several years. Monographs are usually 12-16,000 word papers, similar to journal articles, but which, due to their length, are published in a stand-alone booklet. You can view the published monographs here.
Our Monograph Editor, Eileen Piggot-Irvine, would welcome any new submissions. Please email them to admin [at] alarassociation.org. Submission guidelines are available here.

GCWAL-ALARA Certification Programmes
The alliance between ALARA and the Global Centre for Work-Applied Learning (GCWAL) includes professional certifications as Action Learning Facilitators, Action Learning Practitioners and Work-Applied Learning (WAL) Change Practitioners, co-badged by ALARA and GCWAL.
Discussions with several organisations in three countries continue, and ALARA can expect to see more skilled practitioners joining over coming months and years.
Information about the programmes are available on the GCWAL website and the linked brochures.
The alliance also provides support to ALARA to develop research in action learning and action research. More news will come on research initiatives under the alliance.
If you would like to know more, please see the GCWAL website or the ALARA website.

United Nations Invitations
As announced last year, ALARA is registered with consultative status with the United Nations. The United Nations sends invitations for organisations with consultative status to attend or participate in events. Most are conducted virtually, with some open to the general public via the UN's television site. Amongst these invitations are ones to which ALARA could contribute as a leading action learning / action research organisation. In some cases, the area of expertise is outside the field of work of the Board or Committtees group, but there may be an ALARA member with the knowledge and interest to represent ALARA. Examples of the invitations include:
- Call for written and oral submissions for the High-Level Segment meeting on 13-18 July 2022, with the theme of Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Submissions must be received by ALARA before 15 April to be submitted to the UN.
- International Migration Review Forum on 17-20 May 2022, with an informal session on the preceding day. ALARA cannot speak (as it is not registered in the special category), but the sessions will be available for viewing via the UN Web TV.
- ECOSOC Youth Forum 2022, which will be held on 19-20 April. The Forum will provide a platform for young people to engage in a dialogue with Member States and other actors on concrete actions to rebuild from COVID-19 and to advance towards the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Decade of Action.
If you would like to know more, or represent ALARA at any of these activities, please contact ALARA.

Assistance Request
ALARA is a membership organisation, and volunteers perform almost all of the work required to make the organisation useful to members. ALARA's Board has identified a range of activities that could be done for members, if people are willing to assist in delivering these activities. Examples of these activities include:
- One of the Board and several Committees Group (Co-ordinator) positions remain vacant after the AGM, so members are urged to consider expressing their interest for these positions by emailing as indicated below.
- Proposals and assistance are sought to help plan, prepare and conduct webinars to fill the gap created by social distancing and lack of conferences.
- A small committee is being formed to conduct a conference in Australasia in 2023, and the members of that committee are seeking additional volunteers.
- Several members are involved in research, with at least two other projects on the horizon. The alliance with GCWAL (see above) also supports further research.
- The recognition of Indigenous People and supporting their work in action learning and action research is another exciting opportunity.
If you would like to know more, or want to assist, please contact ALARA.
