Hello

In these times of lock downs, social distancing and frequent hand washing, I hope all ALARA members and their families are safe and well, and staying in touch via telephones or video conferencing.

The ALARA Board have been developing a draft Strategic Plan for 2020 - 2023. This Strategic Plan includes the areas in which the Board believes it needs to concentrate, summarised in the following one page as improving ALARA's financial position and increasing its profile through a variety of activities. Clarifying its Vision Statement and Object are early steps in this work.

Strategic Plan

The proposed activities include investigating the creation of tax deductible trust funds for scholarships and research, developing and implementing a promotional plan, developing key documents, such as an ethics statement for use by those wishing to start an action learning / action research project, and increasing the number of alliances with individuals, other networks and organisations (which is a continuation from the previous Strategic Plan).

Invitation 1. Please provide feedback and suggestions

ALARA members are invited to read the Strategic Plan Overview and Operationalisation Plan, and to provide feedback, suggestions and input by Thursday 16 April 2020. Please see the web page for the draft Strategic Plan for these documents (this is a members only page, so you will need to log into the ALARA site before clicking on this link). Please email suggestions to admin [at] alarassociation.org.

Invitation 2. Alliances with ALARA

In the previous Strategic Directions paper for 2015-2020, ALARA invited proposals for alliances. The Board continues to seek those alliances, but also extends an invitation specifically for alliances with ALARA members. In today's environment, there is an increased opportunity to offer services to those who must work from home or are in social isolation. For example:

  • Creation of short presentations as webinars or videos on subjects related to Action Learning and Action Research as a substitute for in-person presentations (which could continue after the end of the pandemic crisis in the form of webinar, streaming or recorded in-person presentations).

  • Publication of books or shorter publications (ALARA and its predecessors have published several books by ALARA members).

  • Development of learning and development programmes in Action Learning and Action Research.

  • Video-conference discussions on a specific topic (not dissimilar, perhaps, to the Conversations conducted by the Brisbane group, but held virtually).

  • Development of research funding, and, once funds have been gained, development of relationships with organisations conducting research using Action Learning and Action Research.

  •

Members are invited to submit proposals by Friday 17 April 2020, either formally through the structure described in the proposals for alliances paper, or as a less-formal broad outline that will start a discussion with the Board. Please email proposals to admin [at] alarassociation.org.

ALARA's Vision is to crate a more equitable, just joyful, productive, peaceful and sustainable society by creating local and global change through the wide use of Action Learning and Action Research by individuals, groups and organisations.
