Event description

Over time action research has taken on many different forms. Nevertheless, it is possible to identify a core to which the various approaches can be related: Action research is iteratively linked to the further development of practice. The focus is on individuals or groups and their goals, values and interests in the social, economic and political context of work and life, which, in turn, results in new conceptualisations of the relationship between science, research and practice. Action research endeavours can best be described as a search for a process-oriented quality of knowledge and development. Lesson studies can be seen as a development of action research in the context of learning in the classroom.

The Collaborative Action Research Network (CARN) provides a major impetus for action research. CARN sees itself as an international network to which anyone interested in action research can contribute.

Contributions from the entire spectrum of action research in a variety of intervention contexts (education, social work, community development, the arts and others) are invited. Conceptual and theoretical positions, reflected experiences and research results are welcome. In addition to papers and symposia, workshops that involve participation and creative approaches will be particularly appreciated.

See the CARN website for more information.

CARN has announced a call for papers closing 30 May 2025.
