Review of ALARA's Object in Constitution
Hello
During its strategic planning sessions last year, ALARA's Board concluded that the Object as defined in the Constitution (that is, ALARA's purpose) needed to be updated, while maintaining its main intent. As a member of ALARA, you are invited to participate in a discussion about whether a change is required, and if so, the revised wording.
The Object is stated in Clause 6 of the Constitution.
6. Object
The company’s object is to pursue the following charitable purpose:
To promote by all available means the scientific study, practice, research and teaching of Action Learning (AL), Action
Research (AR) and Process Management (PM), and to bring together those of whatsoever professional discipline who
are concerned with AL, AR and PM.
The Board proposes the following wording of this Clause
The company’s object is to pursue the following charitable purpose:
To promote by all available means the study, practice, research and teaching of Action Learning and Action Research in
all their forms, and to bring together people who are interested in or involved with Action Learning and Action Research.
As you can see, this wording expands the description of Action Learning and Action Research and those interested in these methodologies to reflect the "broad church" approach that ALARA has used over much of its life - welcoming any person interested in any form of Action Learning and Action Research.
You are invited to provide your views on this proposal, by replying to this email. If you agree, I will put your content on this members-only page on the ALARA website to allow members to follow the discussion. Please end your email with a statement on whether you agree to have your comments included on the web page (you can highlight parts of your comments for inclusion, if you wish).
This round of discussions will run from today until 15 July 2020. Depending on comments received, we may conduct a further round of discussions.
If the general consensus is a change to the wording of the Object, that wording will be put to a vote of members at the Annual General Meeting, which will be held in November 2020.
