CARN-ALARA Conference, Split, Croatia, 17-19 October, 2019
ALARA Ltd is pleased to be working with the Collaborative Action Research Network (CARN) to present the CARN-ALARA 2019 Conference in Split Croatia from 17-19 October 2019.
With over 80 submissions for the conference, there are only a small number of spaces left in the schedule for this exciting event. The final submissions date has been extended to 28 July 2019, and registrations close on 1 October 2019, so please hurry. AREOL Program Commencing in July
Twice a year ALARA offers a free 15-week online course on action research and evaluation. The next program begins in mid-July, with orientation material sent out in early July. The course is run by email.

Publications
ALARA has recently published a Monograph and ALARj. Members can access the Journal via the OJS website. Both the Journal and the Monograph will be available on the ALARA website by the end of January.
The Monograph is by Eileen Piggot-Irvine, Wendy Rowe and Lesley Ferkins,entitled Thumbs Up for Action Research in Case Studies from the Evaluation Study of Action Research. It is available for ALARA Members on the Monographs page.
ALARA is seeking a print-on-demand service provider to replace Sydney University Press. Any suggestions or assistance in this pursuit would be welcomed - please contact Colin Bradley. Once ALARA has signed with a new provider, these publications will be available in hard copy.

Secretary Assistance Requested
Action Learning, Action Research Association Ltd is seeking assistance in two roles, which could be performed by one or two people. These roles are Minute Secretary and Administration Support Secretary.
- Minute Secretary: The Minute Secretary may attend meetings of the Board (usually 11 per year), and does attend meetings of the Committees Group (between 6 and 10 per year) and the Annual General Meeting.
- Administration Support Secretary: The Administration Support Secretary supports the Board on all matters related to the general administration of ALARA.
Each role requires between about 2 and 10 hours per month. A full description of the work is available here. ALARA will consider applicants in a volunteer or paid capacity.
ALARA also have a number of important initiatives for which we are seeking assistance, such as developing a marketing plan, helping to create local networks or conversation events in any location where members wish to meet, approaching organisations that utilise Action Learning / Action Research that may wish to support ALARA and its activities, and developing relationships with organisations that will provide benefits to members and the wider Action Learning / Action Research community.

ALARA Monograph available

As a previous action research university head of faculty, he has extensive international experience of teaching action research and facilitating action learning sets. Using Theory of Change for Greater Impact
PRIA International Academy (PIA), the educational wing of PRIA, has launched a New Workshop on Using Theory of Change for Greater Impact. This three-day workshop will be held on 17-19 July 2019 at PRIA, New Delhi (India). The course will equip the students, researchers, development practitioners from CSOs, CSR programmes, and donors with strong perspectives on social and human development and rigorous analytical skills to develop programme and projects that can surely make a difference. Sofja Kovalevskaja Award for young research talents
The award provides valuable seed capital and the best conditions for junior researchers from abroad: with the Sofja Kovalevskaja Award, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation promotes outstanding talent and creative approaches to research. Award winners receive up to €1.65 million each, enabling them to spend five years establishing and heading their own research groups at a research institution in Germany. Junior academics of all disciplines from abroad with outstanding qualifications, who completed their doctorates within the last six years, are eligible to apply for the Award. Applications may also be submitted on completion of doctoral studies. Six awards are scheduled to be granted. WERA INtroduces IRNs.
The World Education Research Association (WERA) has now established ten International Research Networks (IRNs). IRNs are collaborative groups of scholars working on a specific research topic primarily through virtual communication or other channels. They include Human Rights Education, Building Communities of Care and Orgainzational Education. Please see here for more information.
